A currency future, also known as FX future, is a futures contract to exchange one currency for another at a specified date in the future at a price (exchange rate) that is fixed on the purchase date. A currency option, also known as FX option, is similar to futures however the key difference is that an options contract grants the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to exchange one currency for another at a specified date in the future at a price (exchange rate) that is fixed on the purchase date.

On NSE International Exchange the price of a currency derivatives contract is in terms of USD per unit of other currency e.g. Indian Rupees or Pound Sterling. Currency derivatives contracts allow investors to hedge against foreign exchange risk
